Adult arowanas are silvery, while juveniles have a blue glint. They have very large scales and a huge oblique mouth. Arowanas have the ability to jump out of the water to catch their prey.
Arowana primarily eat fish at the surface, but will also supplement with insects and crustaceans.
Can grow to 47 inches, and weigh more than 13 pounds
They are found mostly in the Amazon River Basin, Rupununi and Oyapock Rivers
A drop in population numbers has Brazilian authorities concerned.
